Time to act
In short, Bikes4Ukraine will raise funds, collect unwanted bikes and truck them to Ukrainian cities. But we need your help.
“My idea was to get bikes to Lviv for all the internally displaced people who came here to flee the war.”
Lyana Mytsko
Director of Lviv Municipal Art Center
Lviv, the city in the west of Ukraine, has been a safe haven in the country. But due to Internally-Displaced People (IDPs), it has seen a population increase of 200,000 people.
That’s a 28% increase in population.
Public transport is under pressure. IDPs need to get to the supermarket, the doctor or to school with their kids.
In places that suffered the horrors of war like Bucha, Borodyanka, Chernahiv, Kharkiv and countless more cities, bikes are needed because the roads are destroyed by shelling and tanks, the Russians stole or destroyed all public transport and there is a gas shortage.
As ever, cycling is part of the solution but there aren’t enough bikes available.
Campaign director Mikael Colville-Andersen is an internationally renowned expert on cycling and urban mobility.

THOUSANDS OF GOOD, USED BIKES
GIVEN NEW LIFE IN UKRAINE
Bikes we take for granted in European cities can play an important role in the daily lives of Ukrainians. That extra bike in the back courtyard or garage that you no longer use can give momentum to mothers and fathers and an important tailwind to their children and grandparents.
When we started, our goal was 2000 good, used bikes to Ukraine. Since then, we have seen the need increase. The city of Chernihiv has appealed for 7000! Lviv can use as many as we can send. And so many other cities need them as well. Our goal? As many bikes as possible to Ukraine.
Not racing bikes or e-bikes, just everyday rides for daily life.
Lviv needs thousands of decent bikes. Nothing fancy. Not road bikes or e-bikes, just everyday rides. And they need a way to keep cyclists safe – AKA protected bike lanes.
Bikes4Ukraine is an active response to a direct appeal from the city of Lviv in Western Ukraine. Since then, other cities and citizens have contacted us, asking for bikes. They see bikes as a solution for a host of reasons.
Bikes4Ukraine will raise funds, collect unwanted bikes, truck them to Ukrainian cities. It’s as simple as that.
We are fundraising to be able to pay for logistics and transport of bikes to Ukraine.
We recieve bike donations from citizens and ship them to Ukrainian cities with the funds we raised.
